At AstraZeneca, we are looking for a Medical Scientific Liaison - Rare Diseases Perú to join our Medical Affairs team. This field-based role serves as a scientific expert within the assigned therapeutic area, while also bringing a strong understanding of the healthcare ecosystem, access environment, and public policy landscape impacting rare diseases in Peru.

We are looking for an MSL with scientific credibility and demonstrated ability to navigate and influence the ecosystem of access, public policy, and rare disease care in Peru. In addition to engaging with Key External Experts (KEEs) and healthcare professionals, this role will build relationships with a broader network of stakeholders and translate insights from the healthcare ecosystem into meaningful medical strategies.

As an MSL, you will play a critical role in generating scientific and ecosystem insights, fostering trusted partnerships, supporting evidence generation initiatives, understanding barriers to access and patient care, and helping transform clinical practice to improve patient outcomes and access to innovative therapies.

Main Responsibilities

• Execute the Medical Affairs strategy and Field Medical Strategic Plan (FMSP) within the assigned rare disease therapeutic area.
• Establish and maintain strong scientific relationships with Key External Experts (KEEs), healthcare professionals, researchers, and other relevant stakeholders across the healthcare ecosystem.
• Build and maintain a broad stakeholder network beyond traditional clinical KOLs, including healthcare system stakeholders, policymakers, government institutions, patient advocacy organizations, and other relevant actors involved in rare disease care and access.
• Conduct high-quality scientific exchanges and peer-to-peer discussions aligned with medical objectives.
• Provide balanced, evidence-based scientific information regarding AstraZeneca products, rare disease areas, emerging therapies, and relevant scientific developments.
• Develop and maintain a deep understanding of the Peruvian healthcare system, including key stakeholders, decision-making processes, healthcare pathways, and the broader environment influencing rare disease management and access to innovative medicines.
• Leverage knowledge of medicines access and high-cost diseases to identify and understand barriers affecting diagnosis, treatment, patient pathways, and access to innovative therapies.
• Identify, collect, analyze, and communicate actionable medical and ecosystem insights to internal stakeholders, translating these insights into strategic recommendations and actions.
• Monitor developments in public policy, healthcare regulations, access pathways, and the rare disease ecosystem that may impact patients and the delivery of innovative treatments.
• Organize and facilitate scientific meetings, advisory boards, expert panels, symposia, and educational activities.
• Support investigator-sponsored research, local evidence generation initiatives, and publication opportunities.
• Contribute to patient journey mapping and identification of healthcare system challenges, unmet needs, and opportunities to improve diagnosis, treatment, and access.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with Medical Affairs, Market Access, Commercial, Regulatory, Compliance, and other internal teams to address medical and ecosystem priorities.
• Support scientific engagement with traditional and non-traditional stakeholders, including policymakers, government institutions, patient advocacy groups, healthcare institutions, and healthcare innovation partners.
• Contribute to the development of strategies informed by scientific evidence, stakeholder perspectives, and insights from the broader healthcare ecosystem.
• Leverage digital tools and innovative technologies to enhance scientific engagement, insight generation, and medical impact.
• Ensure full compliance with AstraZeneca policies, medical governance standards, pharmacovigilance requirements, and local regulations.

Key Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in a Health Sciences discipline such as Medicine, Pharmacy, Biology, Nursing, Nutrition, Dentistry, or related fields.
• Minimum 1 year of experience within the pharmaceutical industry, clinical research, healthcare environment, or Medical Affairs roles (MSL experience preferred).
• Strong scientific knowledge and understanding of rare diseases and disease management within the assigned therapeutic area.
• Deep knowledge and understanding of the Peruvian healthcare system and its key stakeholders.
• Experience or demonstrated understanding of access to medicines, high-cost diseases, and the challenges associated with diagnosis, treatment, and access to innovative therapies.
• Experience engaging with healthcare professionals, scientific experts, and multidisciplinary stakeholders beyond traditional clinical KOLs.
• Ability to develop and maintain strong stakeholder relationships across the healthcare ecosystem.
• Strong analytical thinking and demonstrated ability to identify ecosystem insights and translate them into strategic actions and recommendations.
• Ability to understand complex healthcare environments and connect scientific evidence with patient, healthcare system, and access needs.
• Excellent communication, presentation, influencing, and relationship-building skills.
• Project management skills and ability to work effectively in a matrix organization.
• Advanced English proficiency (written and spoken).
• Strong digital and collaborative skills: Teams, Copilot, AZChatGPT, PowerPoint, Power BI.
• Ability to travel frequently within the assigned territory.

Preferred Qualifications

• Advanced degree (MSc, PharmD, MD, PhD, or equivalent) in a scientific or healthcare-related field.
• Experience in Medical Affairs, clinical development, evidence generation, market access, healthcare policy, or related areas.
• Previous experience working with key opinion leaders, investigator-sponsored studies, scientific publications, patient advocacy organizations, government institutions, or other healthcare ecosystem stakeholders.
• Experience in rare diseases, orphan diseases, or other high-cost and/or specialized therapeutic areas.
• Strong understanding of the Peruvian healthcare system, access pathways, healthcare policy, and public health environment.
• Experience generating and leveraging insights to inform medical, access, or broader healthcare strategies.
